SUP-Ology SUP Reviews and Gear Recommendations

Data-driven, Honest, No Punches Pulled SUP Reviews. Yes, some of these reviews use affiliate links – we have to keep the lights on somehow – but we only recommend products we actually use and like, and this doesn’t cost you a dime. Plus, we’ll let you know when we use products we don’t like, too. We expect brands to speak with their products so we use a data-driven approach to reviewing. If you see a rating, it’s because we’ve tested it. A lot. Affiliate relationships (or lack thereof) play no role in SUP-Ology reviews for SUPs, paddles, or any other piece of equipment we can get our grubby little mitts on.

We take a scientific approach to our SUP reviews and equipment recommendations. That means we are fully open to changing our minds when new data shows that we should (for better or worse).

Check out our lists of the Best Inflatable SUP Brands, Best Hard Board Brands, and Best SUP Paddles & Gear for this year.

We don’t make individual Best SUPs lists. Why? Because they are bullshit for two very good reasons. First, there are way too many variables that go into choosing a SUP to make blanket statements about which are best. Second, most of the “best paddleboards” lists you do find out there are heavily influenced by sales numbers and affiliate commission percentages.

We’re here to help, not to sell. Rather than trying to make all sorts of comparative lists of individual products, we want to arm you with knowledge to make your own decisions. That’s why SUP-Ology focuses on education and explanation along with real data.

We have found through years of testing, that there are notable differences in brands overall. If you know what type of paddling you are doing (or what type of board you want) and you know which brands are reliable and perform well, then you can easily choose one of many boards that overlap those two categories and end up with a great result.

Recent SUP and Gear Reviews

Newest first – as we get the website started and continue to test equipment we’ll update our SUP reviews and other equipment recommendations here. It may look a bit sparse right now, but we’ve got a lot of equipment lined up for review this year.

We evaluate all of our SUPs based on their construction, their performance, brand reliability, and value. Each of those categories has a litany of features that we test and retest. If a board, paddle, or any other piece of equipment looks new by the time we’re done with it, then we’ve failed. We don’t play games between brands and you, either. We give honest feedback to them, here. We value transparency and honesty. If there’s something wrong or some improvement we think the brand can make, it’s not a private communication back to the brand. You get to see it too.
